Moving Tips

General Packing

First decide what you will be taking with you. If you are downsizing, you will need to find homes for some of your belongings. Our move management partners can help you with this process.

Pack one room at a time. Label boxes as soon as you have filled them. This will ensure that our movers know exactly where each box should go in your new home.

Check carton strength. Be sure the bottom of each carton is secured and can hold the weight of the contents.

Pack each box to capacity. This will alleviate crushed boxes due to underfilling.

Have plenty of filling material. Pillows and blankets work great!

Pack heavier items closer the bottom and lighter items on top. For greater efficiency in moving, boxes should weigh between 25-30 lbs. each.

Treat valuable electronic equipment with care. Pack in original cartons when if possible.

Remove bulbs from lamps. Place upright and separate in large tissue-lined cartons.

Don’t overload dresser drawers. They will be shrink-wrapped, so too heavy a load can cause damage.

Packing Kitchenware

Line the cartons. Stuff with crumbled packing paper.

Stuff glassware before wrapping. Use crumbled tissue paper. Place heavier items on the bottom of the box.

Avoid packing dishware flat in box. Standing it on edge will minimize chances of breakage.

Place glassware and stemware face up. Pack them near the top.

Moving Day

Make way for the movers. Remove any obstacles so they’ll have a clear path through your home and to the truck.

Move your cars. Leave room in front of your house for the truck.

Make plans for your pet. Keeping them out of the way of the movers will reduce your pet’s stress level and anxiety.
